Summary

BarbarQ 2: New Adventure is an adventure RPG with a combination of a unique MOBA and creative sandbox. It is a sequel to the classic pixel-art BarbarQ. Now you can enjoy a new journey in the BarbarQ 2 with enhanced graphics, new clan system, heroes, and powerful pets. You can directly jump into the arena for a random 3v3v3 arena fight or explore the various region to fight enemies and scavenge resources. Other than exploration and battles, you can design and enhance your clan with the resources you win from battles.

Plotline

In BarbarQ 2, a group of barbarians is struggling to rebuild their home due to the shortage of food and other resources. The competition for resources is fierce and your elder chief needs a volunteer to get them some food. You as one of the barbarians volunteered to bring back the Blue-shrooms from the Blue-shroom Meadow to feed your people. However, you must fight off other six barbarians from other clans to gather the resources. Somehow, you have managed to secure enough food for your clan and survive the brawl! The elder chief Hulala was surprised by your power, strength and determination, and so he has elected as the new chieftain of the clan. Now, you as chieftain, are able to develop your clan and make it the most powerful and famous clan in MushroomHala!

Gameplay

As the sequel of the BarbarQ, this New Adventure retains the competitive 3v3v3 arena fight and the ranking system from the previous game. The battle system remains the same. Players join in a random BarbarQ arena by auto-matchmaking. There will be 9 players in total and they will be divided into three separate teams. The gameplay is simple - Players will have to gather as many blue-shrooms or blue mushrooms on the field as possible to win the game, while avoiding getting killed by other barbarians. Other than that, blue-shrooms are needed to level up, and players will have access to new skills every time they level up. The more levels you have, the more skills you will unlock so gather as many as you can! A fight with other players is unavoidable in a battle arena, so you can either play defensively by focusing on collecting mushroom and fight when needed, or go on the offensive and kill other barbarians to loot their mushrooms. Be wary, however, that if you die, you will also drop your mushrooms and others can take them from you.

A lot of skills in BarbarQ 2 are direction-targeted abilities or skill shots, which is similar to MOBA games such as League of Legends. This means you have to aim your skills properly (normally denoted by an arrow or highlighted box) in order to hit your opponents. It could be hard to manipulate the direction of your skills for players who are not used to this, but most will get the hang of it after a few miss shots. Other than blue-shrooms, the arena is littered with special power-ups, such as exploding bombs that you can throw at your opponents, and hammers that deal damage in a straight line when released.

The unique feature that makes BarbarQ different from other MOBA games is that a boss monster named Bashroom will spawn on the battlefield after some time in the arena. The player who lands the killing blow on the boss will become the Master Evil, which grants the player higher damage and health points, and a big purple barbarian avatar! Don’t worry if you do not manage to defeat the Bashroom, as you will still have the chance to become the new Master Evil, by defeating the current one. With this unique boss element combined with the different skills and power-ups available in the game, every battle is exhilarating as anyone can turn the tide at the very last second!

In BarbarQ 2, winning a battle will reward you with various items ranging from materials to build and enhance your clan, and items to upgrade your heroes, to treasure chests that contain armor or weapons. Winning a battle in the arena will increase your season Hero Rank too. There are seven Hero Ranks and each rank contains several minor ranks. Hero ranks are calculated separately for each hero character. The rank of all heroes will be reset at the end of the season. Each hero will receive a Rank Chest by reaching a new rank for the first time in a new season. Reaching a new rank will unlock new talents to the random skill pool of BarbarQ Arena and it is depending on the highest obtained rank.

In addition to the classic arena mode, BarbarQ 2 introduces new game modes such as the pet system and the story mode. Players get to enjoy single-player campaigns and explore new islands for extra resources. Players can unlock exciting maps and stories to fight a variety of powerful bosses. Completing the story episodes will reward players with materials to enhance their heroes, and also mysterious eggs in which players can hatch them into wonderful pets in the pet cabin. Each pet will have its own skills and players can bring their pets along to battle so that they can benefit from the additional buff from their pet in battle.

Community

In BarbarQ 2, players can team up with friends to join in the 3v3v3 arena fight instead of joining a random team. You can always invite your best friends to form the strongest team and ace the game strategically. You can make new friends by inviting strangers from nearby too using the social system. You can also chat with other players in world chat. The world of BarbarQ 2 is full of friendly and helpful players so there is never a dull social moment in the game.

Graphics/ Sound

Unlike the first game in the series that uses retro pixel-art, BarbarQ 2 starts its new adventure with mainstream 3D animations. This sequel uses an enhanced 3D gaming environment with detailed illustrations of heroes and their equipment. The characters and pets are appealing with their cute and chubby designs. The lively background music also makes the game more engaging. Different scenes come with unique background music that is in line with the atmosphere of the gameplay. The control of the game is also simple with only a few buttons during the fights.
