Plotline

The emergence of the Neo Russia Federation (NRF) doesn’t bode well for the world, especially when it boasts of having the 3rd largest population in the world after China and India. The NRF’s rapidly growing military might is feared by many, especially those European countries that remained independent of the NRF, but as the army has no particular target to focus on, they started to become unruly, making them much more dangerous. The president of the NRF began to divert his attention to the rich Middle East countries for their oil reserves. The countries around the Black Sea offer a new purpose to the NRF army.

However, the NRF wanted to keep China as an ally and as leverage to pressure USA from attacking its forces. Thus, it offers oil that it has obtained from the Middle East that a very cheap price to China as bribe. Nonetheless, the leadership in China is not blind to NRF’s quick and decisive victories across Europe and feared the worse – the time when NRF will turn their sights on the Asian countries. They quickly revised their position in the war. Unshackled by China and bolstered by public opinion, US military forces stream into Western Europe to aid the battered EU army in preparation for a major counterattack on the NRF! The time of being on the defensive is over. It’s time to bring the fight to them!

Gameplay

You’ll be dropped into the lobby right after you logged in. Here, you can customize and prepare for the battle ahead or you can also head straight into battle! You can search for a room with the game mode that you want to play or you could use the “quick join” option to randomly hop right into a game! You can create a room for you and your friends to play in as well!

In Alliance of Valiant Arms (AVA), the game provides a huge list of game modes that you can enjoy. The 9 different game modes include escort, annihilation, demolition, convoy, AI missions, domination, free for all, cross steal and escape. Annihilation is the same as the team deathmatch mode that you’ll encounter in other MMO shooter games whereby your team will have to be the first team to reach a fixed number of kills to win, while convoy requires a team to transport a designated object which is usually protected by the opposing team to the target area to win. For demolition, a team will need to plant a bomb to destroy one of the 2 targets available and prevent it from being disarmed. The team doing the bomb planting has limited C4, so if the enemy managed to disarm the team’s bomb, they’ll lose the game.

For domination, it works a lot like “King of the hill” mode, in which your team will have to compete with the other team to secure a target. Once secured, the domination meter of the team holding the place will begin to fill up. The first team to complete its meter wins the game! In “cross steal” mode, both teams in the game will possess a nuclear launch key. The mission is to steal the other team’s key while defending your own. Moreover, in free for all, it’s every man for him/herself as everybody is fair target no matter what faction you’re on!

Furthermore, the escape mode in AVA is kind of like the game Left for Dead whereby you and your team will have to proceed to the extraction point before the mission timer runs out while the opposing team (not zombies) will try their very best to hamper your efforts by – what else?- killing you and your teammates. You’ll need to have at least 1 player to reach the extraction point in order to win. For the AI missions, well, you and your team of human players will be working together to face computer-generated enemies. There are 2 sub-modes actually for AI missions – one of which is the escape mode, while the other is a survival mode, whereby your team will have to hold out against AI enemies for as long as possible!

The most interesting mode is definitely the escort mode. In this game mode, one team will have to escort an ally tank to the specified target within the allotted time while the other team will be busy trying to disrupt the team’s progress. The tank will only move when allies are around it and if the tank sustained too much damage, it will stop until one of the members of the team repairs it. Repairing takes time too so if you’re on the attacking team, well, this is a prime time to hit the target.

Besides game modes, Alliance of Valiant Arms also offers many maps. The map that you’ll encounter depends on the game mode you’ve chosen. For instance, for annihilation, there are 10 different maps, including barricade, windmill, township and pyramid, while for escort mode, the game has fewer maps, namely burning temple, storm blitz, scorpion and rising dust.

In addition, Alliance of Valiant Arms even provides you with 3 different classes to have fun with, namely point man, rifle man and sniper. Each class has their own specialized weapons and you can easily swap classes in between rounds in the game. In terms of lodaouts, each player are allowed 1 primary weapon (the selection of weapons will depend on the class you chose), 1 secondary weapon (your handgun), melee (the default combat knife, usually) and grenades. You can also expand your backpack (using real money) to increase the amount of grenades or ammo that you can carry.

To play, you’ll need to learn about the controls in AVA. However, if you’re an experienced player of MMO shooter games, then you should not have too much problem adjusting to the controls in this game. Basically, the controls in AVA aren’t as different as any other MMO shooter – you still use WASD to move and you can crouch, jump, sprint and even crouch sprint! However, AVA is has additional controls, which include toggling night vision mode (N key) for dark areas or underground facilities or equipping silencer on your weapon (V key). Not all weapons can be silenced though - Only certain submachine guns and some secondary weapons.

Furthermore, the team squad leader has a pair of nifty binoculars, which can “take snapshots” (like a camera) of enemy positions and relay it to the team. When used correctly, this feature can be very useful in planning strategic maneuvers to, for example, capture a location defended by the hostile troops. Not to mention, you can also collect dog tags that dropped from killed enemies. For every 3 tags you collect, you’ll get a nice bonus score for your team! You can even pick up weapons from weapon caches in the field to use them (if permitted by your class), but since you do not exactly “own” it, you will not have access to that weapon after the match.

The shop in AVA doesn’t provide only a variety of weapons but also armor parts. Gun in this game can be rented or permanent and are grouped based on classes. Admittedly though, a majority of the guns in this game is on a rental basis. In terms of armor, you cannot just buy an entire suit of armor. Instead, your armor is separated into parts, such as chest armor, helmet, gloves, boosts and protector. This also means that you’ll need to spend quite a lot of money trying to get a piece of armor for every part of your character’s body.

Don’t forget that your weapons and armor will experience wear and tear! Thus, you should remember to repair them from time to time. You wouldn’t want your weapon or armor to breakdown on you during an intense match, right? There are also plenty of medals, campaign ribbons and badges that you can earn by being a good shooter in AVA. How many of these can you managed to collect?

Community

You can sign up to join a clan in order to truly be a part of the community in Alliance of Valiant Arms. Besides having reliable friends to play with, you can also participate in clan wars with your clan buddies. There is also a clan channel where you can ask for help if you need it. Like many other MMO shooter games, AVA is also geared towards esports and thus, it organizes quite a lot of tournaments for its fellow elite players to join. There is also embedded live streaming support for players who are Twitch users.

Graphics/ Sound

The 3D graphics in Alliance of Valiant Arms is really good and is definitely up to par with other free-to-play shooter games, like Soldier Front 2 or Combat Arms. It may not exactly be in super high definition like standalone games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Battlefield Hardline, but whatever graphics that is there is sufficient enough for players to enjoy the game! Just bear in mind that this game is free-to-play.

The sound effects in this game are incredible. This includes the different sound of gunfire and grenade explosions. There are also voice overs for your characters that changes depending on your faction. For example, if you’re NRF, your guy will yell “grenade!” in Russian when you hurl a grenade. Little things like this do make the game stand out!

Conclusion

All in all, Alliance of Valiant Arms is an excellent MMOFPS that offers plenty of different and exciting game modes as well as maps for you to enjoy. There are 3 different classes, namely point man, rifle man and sniper that you can choose from and there are also various cool weapons, grenades, and awesome-looking armor that you can buy! The Neo Russia Federation needs to be stopped before all of the world’s countries fall before it! Do you think you have what it takes to prevail in the heat of the battle? Play Alliance of Valiant Arms to find out!
