War of the Immortals is a MMO Roleplaying Game from the makers of Battle of Immortals and Perfect World. In this game, you can play as nine of the powerful character classes that can deal devastating damage to enemies and each has different playing style to suit your type. You will be able to explore different locations and dungeons where you can defeat bosses and earn epic loot. You can also compete with different players for large scale PvP battles and earn the bragging rights to become the best in the server.
Players will explore the fantasy world of Motenia, where it is filled with myths, legends and warring gods. You will be stuck in a conflict between two gods; Odin and Loki where they are locked in an age-old struggle for supremacy. Travel to different areas to protect the mortals from the clutches of Loki, explore the underwater city of Atlantis to the mystical realm of Asgard. Join forces with Prince Roan as he defend both the realm of gods and human from evil forces that wish to destroy it.
War of the Immortals play very similar to the other game developed by Perfect World; Battle of the Immortals. From the gameplay up to the visual style, it makes it easier for players from the first game to adapt faster to War of the Immortals, however in terms of difference on content and features, both lack any difference from one another.
When you start in the game, you will be able to choose from nine different character classes that is available, the classes compose of Berzerker, Champion, Heretic, Magus, Slayer, Duelist, Ranger, Enchantress and Harbinger. Each of these classes have distinct abilities and equipment, and each plays differently yet easy to get familiar with their styles. As for character customization, the game lacks any of it and you can only change the armor set and weapons to make you appearance look different. You may also purchase premium costumes for a different look from other players but in exchange for additional fees.
The game provides a short intro tutorial to give you an idea on how to play the game, but in a form of quest objectives. You accept quests as the game gives you objectives on how to use the game interface and how to interact with other characters and objects, the good part here is that all quests provide rewards to give you an edge in the early portion of the game. You will be able to progress further after the tutorial, unfortunately you cannot skip the tutorials as majority of it are story bounded.
Combat in War of the Immortals plays very similar with action RPGs in the market, the game has an isometric view where you navigate your avatar in areas and engage in monsters by pointing your mouse cursor towards them, you can also use the numerical keys to use skills that are mapped as hotkeys as well as consumable items. Completing quests are also easy as there is the feature that lets you navigate around the area without controlling your avatar, all you have to do is click on the names on the quest objectives and your avatar will automatically move to the target’s location. However you may still need to manually attack the enemies or interact with NPCs to complete the quest.
Quests in the game are very straightforward, you can finish them within minutes, and some examples include defeating certain number of monster or collecting loot from defeated monsters up to talking to key NPCs. Rewards may vary from experience points to gold up to powerful equipment. There are also optional quests and repetitive quests that you can take that has no connection to the story-related quests, these can be accomplished alone or with other players and these are harder than the standard quests so it may take some several attempts to finish this if players are under levelled.
There are active players in War of the Immortals and they interact with newer players to help them out in the game. There are the usual party-based missions and quests where you will be raiding instanced dungeons to defeat the dungeon boss to acquire powerful loot, or form a Guild and earn perks for becoming a member. Also there are competitive matches for player versus player battles, you can engage in duels with other players or participate in large scale guild wars with other rival groups.
The visuals in the game are somewhat good, but not much detailed as compared to newer games that arrived this year. The character models are well designed and have flashy special effects on their wings and weaponry, thought you will also notice some dated details when in close up. As for the audio department, the music track features some fantasy themed tunes that features some orchestral instruments, however the tracks are not that memorable and would not leave a good impression even when heard for the longest time.
Overall, War of the Immortals offers a fun action RPG for those who want a Diablo-like gaming experience. Though if compared with Battle of the Immortals which is developed by the same team, there is no significant different between the two players who are in BOI might have no reason to move to War of the Immortals. But for those who are looking for a decent online action RPG with easy to learn gameplay and ease of controls, then War of the Immortals is a good choice.
