Strike. Is is a top shooter with multiplayer elements. It is like a typical first person shooter deathmatch game but in a top down perspective. It features different game modes that are all again similar to the classic deathmatch first person shooters. Players can pick up power ups and weapons that are scattered in the map for a lot of possible ways to eliminate their enemies.
The game focuses on the cells in our body, just like in any typical human cells, they grow, multiply and absorb. However, these cells are not just your ordinary cells... they can wield a multitude of guns and shoot at each other. Yep, that basically sums up Stike. Is - it is all about shooting stuff at your enemies and become the last man or rather cell standing. However, since this is a review, we’ll delve into the game more and provide you with a whole lot more info.
Let’s start with the gameplay. The gameplay in Strike. Is works almost like your usual top-down 2D arcade shooters. You use the WASD keys to move your character, like W is for up and S for down and regardless in what direction you are facing, the movement controls still retain. You aim by using the mouse to change on where you are pointing. You have the basic shot when clicking on the left mouse button and right mouse button for the alternate ability which will depending on the equipped weapon that you have. The F key is for the swapping of abilities as some weapons can provide two different abilities.
There are several weapons available in the game, some can be purchase on the store and lets you initially equip it at the start of the game, but for the starting weapon, the crossbow is the first weapon that you will be using. And as we have mention before, each of these weapons can have different abilities, like the crossbow can let you dash for a short duration which makes you move faster, or alternatively it can show scattered arrows. Some weapons play differently and can become your advantage if played well, some example include a dual pistol, a shotgun with the ability to heal, or a sniper rifle that gives you a larger view in your surroundings and a phaser gun that shoots lasers. Just don’t forget to replenish your ammo once in a while, but the entire map is filled with ammo power ups so you don’t have to worry much on it.
The map design is just like your typical first person deathmatch shooters, there are not much on the long corridors, but just a square map with possible shortcuts and large space for any possible ambush. And some of the power ups like the health packs are scattered in strategic locations, the weapon placements are in fixed locations as well and the types of weapons are not random at all, so players can prioritize on which weapon to take. The drawback on the maps is that the spawn points can be infiltrated by opposing players or teams, meaning it is a welcome sign for possible player camping to eliminate other players when they respawn, hopefully they could fix this issue, and also staying on your spawn point will regenerate your health at a faster rate.
Strike. Is has some different game modes, but if players want an instant action, they can go directly for a quickplay and join any ongoing matches regardless of what game mode they are playing. For some who wants to go for the competitive, they can opt for the rank matches and earn better rewards, or join guilds and participate in guild battles. For the types of match, there is the classic deathmatch where you pit off against other players and see who can do the most number of kills, or if you want teamwork, there is the team deathmatch mode. If you want something more challenging, the capture the flag mode could be your preferred game where you must capture the enemy’s flag and bring it to your base before your enemy does to your flag.
As for character customization, you can purchase them from the in-game shop to provide some cosmetics and stat bonuses. You can buy them with the in-game gold currency, you can earn these gold by completing matches or accomplish any daily challenges, you can also purchase weapons and set it as your starting weapon.
As for the number of players, Strike. Is only has a handful, though there are certain cases where there are not much players online to participate, in certain peak hours, you can enter a match in just a matter of minutes. And with the ongoing rank matches, there are several number of competitive players available to give you some challenge.
The game does not have any visual to shout about as it is basically a circle character that is somewhat should be a human cell and more on 2D animations. That being said, you can buy different skins for your cell to distinguish yourself from the other players. The gun designs are also somewhat okay as they are easy to be recognize by players. For the sound, the background music was provided by h3ctic for that 8-bit chiptune music that keeps the mood pumping for adrenaline action and to keep the players feel hyped.
Strike. Is is a very interesting game, though there are some rough spots like spawn point issue that can be resolved in future updates and more unlockable content such as cosmetics and more weapons to keep it more fun and keeps the players to continue playing. The visuals may be a turn off for some but if the players are looking for a fun and free multiplayer shooter, they can give this game a chance.
