Genshin Impact: 5 Tweaks and Improvements the Game Needs

Genshin Impact provides a deep and enriching gameplay experience and is undoubtedly one of the best games in 2020. However, there are a few aspects and tweets it needs to improve on. WWGDB - Genshin Impact: 5 Tweaks and Improvements the Game Needs

Genshin Impact felt like the first season of an outstanding anime series in the caliber of Demon Slayer and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Personally, the hype has settled: I’ve finished all the available story quests and explored the entirety of the available regions a few dozen hours in.

As we’re all waiting for the next big content update to drop and provide us with new regions and characters, there are a few aspects the game definitely needs to tweak and improve on. Don’t get me wrong: it provides a fantastic experience thanks to its strong cast of characters, deep combat system, and beautifully-designed world. Yet, I don’t think it can sustain its stellar run for long due to the long grind and, of course, the dreaded gacha mechanics.

With that said, here are a few suggestions:

The option to directly purchase characters

In my 10-15 gacha rolls, I’ve received the fortune of receiving three five-star star characters, namely Venti, Keqing, and Mona (she is on a separate account, unfortunately). Considering the cost to buy primogems, the chance rates, and the long grind, the window to get the characters I want - looking at you, Diluc - is a third of a way closed. Sure, there are a lot of people willing to spend a huge amount of cash to continue rolling, but that’s just not an option for a lot of other players.

With that in mind, this is why it would be a great idea to give players the option to purchase characters instead of having them purely roll via gacha/wish. Although you could say this will be a bad move business-wise (more people spending on rolls, more money), it’s a pro-consumer move that will give players a concrete and sure return for the money they’ve spent. I know I’d spend $10-$20 just to get Jean or Diluc into my team. Though not exactly similar, this worked for Epic with its character skins.

Opening the store up to direct purchases and not just gacha rolls will definitely give miHoYo a ton of money. Plus, I know a lot of potential players who were put off by the gacha mechanics, so the company won’t stand to lose anything with this move.

Improving the resin system and battle pass

Quite frankly, the battle pass system needs a lot of improvement. Instead of doing whatever you can on the world to raise gather BP experience, you have to perform concrete tasks. In a way, this limits your freedom and pressures players to get these done, especially if they’ve bought the premium version, AKA the Gnostic Hymn. It would be a better option to have players gain BP experience via performing quests, defeating monsters, completing domains, and opening chests.

The same can be said about the resin system. Players use this valuable resource to open domains (or dungeons) and from harvesting resources from bosses. These respawn at a rate of one per eight minutes and you get 120 charges a day. Considering that receiving material from bosses requires 40 charges and getting materials from domains requires 20, it would be a good idea to increase the number of charges or simply shorten the recharge rate. This is honestly stressful especially if you’re trying to grind for character and weapon ascension materials.

Item and resource respawn

On one occasion, I was trying to ascend Chongyun, a four-star greatsword user who uses the cryo element, and needed 20 Cor Lapis, a type of amber mined in Liyue. Unfortunately, I spent up all I’ve mined to level up Keqing, a five-star character, and needed to grind all over again. Unfortunately, the entire process will take a few days, considering that even after 24 hours, Cor Lapis, along with other resources, don’t seem to be respawning. It would have been better to let it spawn after eight hours or exactly a day to shorten the grind.

Multiplayer rewards and quests

Co-op is one of Genshin Impact’s offerings, and although it feels great taking out bosses and domains with friends, there’s little reward for doing so. Sure, you can mine and grind resources on your friends’ worlds, but you can’t open chests. This means you’re not eligible to receive rewards when taking out monsters guarding vital resource points. You need to go back to your world, beat the monster again, and open the chest.

Performance improvements on the PS4

One of the reasons why I’ve switched over to the PC version (and gave up more than 10 hours of progress) is due to the performance issues on the PlayStation 4. Sure, the latter holds up fairly well, but it’s prone to framerate drops and stutter, especially on the base model. Sure, this is miHoYo’s first venture into the console world, but it’d be great if they could make it run as smoothly as the PC version.

There’s a lot to look forward to in Genshin Impact. How miHoYo will respond to the raving reviews and user feedback remains to be seen. More importantly, there’s a lot of content on the pipeline and here’s to hoping it’ll be as good or even better than its current state.
