Sentinel Heroes InterviewMar 1, 2015 | 1 Votes by Adeaphon 9 rate In this interview we are very happy to have been able to ask questions of Savannah, from the PR & development team of Sentinel Heroes.
Today we are interviewing Savannah, the PR manager for Sentinel Heroes Studio & Easy Games, a developer that have just released their first game: Sentinel Heroes. Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for us Savannah.
Before we get really into it, can you tell us a little more about yourself?
Sure, but there's not much to tell about myself. I've been working in this industry over 4 years. Sentinel Heroes is not my first project, but it's definitely my favorite one.
Can you tell us about Easy Games?
Easy Games was founded by five young and passionate people who were inspired by World of Warcraft and driven by the same big dream of making great games for everyone worldwide. Until now, we've got over 20 members and most members have at least 4 years of experience in this industry. Sentinel Heroes is our first project.
Can you tell us about Sentinel Heroes?
Sentinel Heroes is a role-playing game merged with turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about the Epic War between the Sentinel and Scourge. It reproduces the images and skills of DOTA heroes but simplifies the battles. Players can enjoy the core fun of DOTA games in a more casual and relaxed environment.
In Sentinel Heroes, players can step into the boots of three kinds of characters: Phantom Assassin, Sacred Warrior and Silencer and can recruit hundreds of distinctive heroes of the three representative types known as Dexterity, Strength and Intelligence heroes. Every hero has a couple of special abilities and the three basic attributes that determine their power. If you want more heroes, you can threaten, lure or bribe them to join you through Recruiting; if you prefer to do it yourself, you can revive a legendary hero with required materials in Soulfusing; and if you don’t have so much time, you can get heroes, materials and weapons through Auto Mop-up. Also, you can redeem heroes with arena credits and win stronger heroes by completing special quests.
Sentinel Heroes also encourages communications among players. There is a chat system, friends system, league system and Auction House in the game. Players can duel against and trade with each other, also help each other.
Since players can control up to 5 heroes at a time and Sentinel Heroes battle formation is a 3x3 grid, players need to decide which heroes to pick and how to place the heroes in the formation. So it’s up to each player to come up with a personalized strategy.
Tons of heroes and rich systems can lead to endless ways to play, which pushes the drama and unpredictability of adventures in Sentinel Heroes to the extreme. For example, even two players that choose the same main hero at the beginning will differ once they take their first step out of the Camp, for their different hero-cultivation and team-building strategies. You can approach the game the way you like and create your own adventure stories.
Can you describe your work on the game?
Sure, my main work is looking for media partners. We are open to various levels of cooperation.
When you say media partners, what are you looking for them to do for you?
Generally speaking, we want our media partners to review and introduce our game Sentinel Heroes. We know it's a good game and we want more people to know that.
Do you have specific goals within each cooperation or do you tailor each partnership to the company?
We'd love to tailor each partnership to the company. For example, some media partners want to do giveaways, it's welcome. Some want a revenue share deal, it's open for discussion, too. We always look for mutually beneficial partnership.
How did you decide what is the right audience for the game?
This is a tough question.
Since Sentinel Heroes has some DOTA features. We think DOTA fans may be very interested in our game. Also, considering the strategic side of the game, the game may appeal to players who love challenges. And through tests, our guess is confirmed. But what surprised us is that there are more female players than we expected in the game.
That's interesting, what were you thinking the ratio of male to female players would be? And what do you think contributed to the shift in players?
To be honest, I thought most players would be male. :) But it turned out that the nice graphics and casual gaming environment attracted more female players than we thought.
Which marketing approaches you took to promote the game?
So far, we haven't done much marketing. We are proud to call ourselves game developers rather than marketers.
On which different marketing channels did you promote the game?
We are also looking for licensing agents for Sentinel Heroes around the world now. These agents will promoted the games in their own countries on our behalf. We also use Facebook and our own website.
What is the players first reaction when they play the game?
Some players said that the game reminds them of DOTA when they first play it. But as they keep playing, they find the difference very soon.
How did the homepage and landing page affect players engagement into the game?
The homepage of Sentinel Heroes is simple and clear. The registration form fields are culled down to just the basics - email and password. So players can sign up very easily. We use well-known hero images and actual screenshots to help players see what's to come if they join the game. I think the design is pretty effective at communicating the game’s basic features to attract players into the game. There is also a landing page through which players can join the game without registration.
Can you tell us an interesting story you encountered while promoting the game?
Ok, once I see this question, a story immediately pops into my mind. But it might be more of an inspirational one instead of a fun one. One day, I got an email from one of our forum moderators with the title "I don't want to be moderator any more". I was upset, to be honest, to get such an email from a very active and helpful moderator. But I can't help but smile once I read through the email. He told us that he is a college student majoring in game development, he loves the game so much and wants to be more involved than a moderator. In the email, he shows so much passion about Sentinel Heroes and puts forward lots of ideas to improve the game and how he can help. It's really encouraging. Once the game is online, we've got lots of help from our dear fans, they find bugs, provide suggestions, write walkthroughs, help new players...without them, Sentinel Heroes can't go so far.
What is the future of Sentinel Heroes?
I believe Sentinel Heroes will be better and better in the future.
In terms of market, Sentinel Heroes is already online in Vietnam and will be launched in other regions like Russia very soon. In terms of development, we've released League (or Guild) Wars System, Enhancement System and two new maps this month, and more interesting new contents are on the way. I'm also very looking forward to the mobile version of Sentinel Heroes.
A mobile version, great what steps or approaches are you going to take to market this new version of the game?
The mobile version of Sentinel Heroes will differ quite a bit from its PC counterpart. So will the marketing approaches. Public relations, advertisements, social networking...we'll try various methods and hope to find what works best.
Are there any interesting new games we should be expecting from Easy Games or Sentinel Heroes Studio?
Sure, we're also developing two new mobile games. More details will be revealed when time comes. The only thing I can tell you now is that the new games are different from Sentinel Heroes in terms of both theme and gameplay and they will be good and interesting, that's for sure. :)
Well that is all of the questions I had for you today, do you have anything else that you would like to add Savannah?
I'd love to take this opportunity to say thank you to all Sentinel Heroes fans for their incredible support. Also, thanks for giving me this chance to introduce our team and the game. We will keep doing our best to perfect Sentinel Heroes and bring more good games to the world.
Thank you very much for your time today and for taking part in this interview Savannah. We here at WWGDB hope that your game continues long into the future and we look forward to your new updates and seeing what the future holds.
