Starting off as an indie games company like every other indie companies out there, Pixowl has shown that they are able to stand out from the flock by producing games that are not only fun to play, but are also entirely unique. It’s no wonder Pixowl is now a rather known name in the mobile market. Let’s find out more about this amazing company and learn about its success. WWGDB - Pixowl

Who are they?
Founded by Arthur Madrid back in 2011, Pixowl started off as a humble game development studio specializing in mobile games with its headquarters situated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, with plenty time, experience and a very good yet small development team, Pixowl has shot up to fame within the very competitive mobile games market, beating all the other indie developers to the world recognition that so many games companies crave.

Although Pixowl has approximately 7 games under their belt at the moment, its catalog of mobile games seems to be rapidly expanding. Not to mention, they have started expanding the number of platforms their games can be played on. Started on the iOS platform, their latest games are now available on the Android platform, Windows phone platform and even on Blackberry.

Being able to make a mark on the mobile market is no simple feat and due to this, you must be wondering how they managed to get to where they are today. Well, let’s find out, shall we?

What do they do?
Since its inception, Pixowl has been producing mobile games on a pretty much regular basis. Among the earliest games, they have produced include a rather unique match-4 action puzzle game called, Safari Party; and a simulation game, called Greedy Grub, where you get to play the very important role of Assistant Mayor of a magical Forest. They have also added a very unique twist to the classic snake game with their game, Doodle Grub.

Snoopy’s Town Tale

In fact, it is Doodle Grub that has given Pixowl the boost they needed to gain international recognition. It is so popular that the company has decided to produce their very own Grub plushies and a sequel to Doodle Grub, named simply as Grub.

Their hard-earned fame has not gone unnoticed and this is exactly one of the reasons why they have landed a very lucrative and sweet deal with Jim Davis, the artist behind the hugely popular Garfield comics. From the deal they have forged came the whimsical game, Garfield: Survival of the Fattest. In this game, players will be able to try to help the famous, or should I say infamous, fat tabby cat to get back his favorite dishes. Players will be able to interact with Garfield and the other familiar characters in Garfield’s universe, including the sometimes clueless Jon, the adorable and lovable Odie as well as Nermal, Squek, Arlene, Billy and Dicky.

Due to the success they have enjoyed with their games, Pixowl has stepped up their game and had managed to land another coveted deal with Activision, a major game developing and publishing mogul in the gaming industry, to produce a game based on everyone’s lovable dog, Snoopy! The company has gone above and beyond the call of duty with Peanuts: Snoopy’s Town Tale, a very enjoyable simulation game where players need to help Snoopy and his friends rebuild their hometown.

Their most recent pixel-based simulation game, The Sandbox 2, is looks like it’s another hit game for Pixowl, especially if you take into consideration all of the awards and nominations the game has snagged, such as the “Most Promising IP” title from Game Connection Dev Awards. It is also nominated as the best upcoming games of 2016 at the International Mobile Gaming Awards.

In this game, you get play as an almighty god who is in the process of creating an entire world from scratch. By mixing and combining various elements together, you will be able to gain access to new elements that you can then use in the world you’re crafting. It is a lot like the “alchemy” games that the mobile platform is populated with, but with a world-building twist. It’s really an amazing game.

The Sandbox

So, now that you know about what they are and what they do, it should be pretty obvious how they have achieved their success. One of the key ingredients of their success is their dedication to creating games that contain comic book art and are very unique and engaging. As quoted from their website, Pixowl “strives to meet and exceed the desires of mobile game players worldwide by blending exciting gameplay, comic book art and character-driven storylines”. When games you produce contain all of the above aspects, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you when your game garnered quite a lot of attention from gamers worldwide.

Another factor that I believe can be attributed to their success is their willingness to innovate as opposed to following in the footsteps of other popular games, such as the crazy ton of “Candy Crush Saga”-like, cash-grabbing clones that you now have access to on the mobile platform. They didn’t succumb to this common pit hole that some indie teams might drop into and that speaks really well for them in terms of their principles as game developers. I’m sure this is something that fans of their games can clearly see as well.

What does the future hold?
From what can be seen on their website, Pixowl has plenty of games in the pipeline that they are all too eager to get started. There are also games that are currently in the works (a.k.a. in the development process), including the sequel to their popular The Sandbox game. They might expand more on the plushies they have to offer. With any luck, they might just consider porting some of their more popular mobile games over to Facebook or browser as well.
