The advantage is that Java edition has the edge when it comes to gameplay as it is robust, community-established, has more freedom in server customization and creation, and has more multiplayer community-hosted worlds.

Java edition may not have device cross-platform gameplay, but whether one has a PC or Mac, one can always join in on established servers where lots of Minecraft people are having lots of fun.

Modding and customization matters

As mentioned, gamers in Minecraft either spend the majority of their time questing and fighting, building, building, and building, and modding or tweaking the innards of the game. If you're planning on tweaking Minecraft and pushing it beyond its Vanilla settings, stick with Java.

The right and best experience

To put things in the simplest of perspectives, both Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft have their own specialized uses and specific target player markets.

Java edition is for gamers playing on a desktop and leaning towards customization, modding, and community-made content. Java provides early access to upcoming new features and classic Minecraft versions as well.

Bedrock is for those who tend to use other game dedicated and mobile devices to play Minecraft. The cross-platform feature of Bedrock is a huge plus as well and gamers can play with others regardless of the device they use even with lower-end devices.

With Bedrock, game content, and features are a lot safer as they are coming from the Minecraft Marketplace.

Taking everything into account, the best Minecraft version for the best experience would be the one where you can explore, build, and have all the fun you can get out of Minecraft in whatever way you get into the game. If you're a PC hardcore gamer and want to get into community gameplay, Java edition would surely be a no-brainer.

If you're using a gaming device other than a PC to play Minecraft, say a Nintendo Switch, then Java edition would simply be out of the question.
