Grinding for primogems in Genshin Impact is quite tedious, and it will take a while before you can actually hit the pity rate. Here are a few tips to get the characters you want and make the most out of your primos. WWGDB - Genshin Impact: Primogem Management Tips New Players Need to Know

Let’s say you’re a new Genshin Impact player, and you’re totally excited about receiving your first five-star character. Unfortunately, chances are pretty slim since the game has the worst pull rate at 0.6%. This means that with every pull, you only have a 0.6% chance of obtaining a five-star character or item. Worse, the game utilizes a 50/50 five-star chance in featured banners. In a nutshell, you’ll only have a 50% chance of obtaining the featured character if you pull a five-star item, unless if the “guarantee mechanic” comes into play.

Anyway, if you’re someone who still hasn’t figured out how to have enough primogems and wishes when a character they anticipate arrives, here are a few tips:

Don’t spend primogems on the regular banner

Regular banner in Genshin Impact

There are three different banners in Genshin Impact: the featured banner that shows featured characters, and the weapon banner, and the regular banner.

It wouldn’t be a good idea to spend primogems on the regular banner, considering you won’t receive any of the limited-time characters and weapons. Note that you’ll only receive some of the more generic five-star weapons, along with less rare characters like Jean, Keqing, Diluc, and Qiqi. Though they’re things you’d want to have on your team, it’s more worth it to pull on the featured banners. So yes, only pull on the regular banner if you have acquaint fates.

Pull with team composition in mind

Featured banner

When you pull it pays to make team composition a priority. For example, let’s say the current banner is Hu Tao’s, a pyro DPS character who can make short work of almost any opponent. However, your team already has the likes of Klee, Xiao, and Ayaka, which are undoubtedly top-tier DPS characters. With this in mind, it would be a good idea to skip Hu Tao’s banner (unless if you want her so much and don’t care about team composition) and wait for the arrival or reruns of support characters, like Albedo and Kokomi.

In addition, featured banners contain their own set of four-star characters. When built correctly, they can be as lethal as five-star ones and can act as fantastic complementary team members like Diona, Xinqiu, and Bennett. When pulling on the featured banner, be sure to put them into consideration, especially if you’re looking to get more constellation.

Don’t pull in every banner

Make team composition a priority

Pulling in every banner is a formula for “not having enough primogems when a character you actually need/like comes along.” This is a massive waste of primogems and, at the same time, eliminates the already slim odds of hitting gold in a future banner.

In addition, it’s also a massive drain on your resources. Building a character’s stats, from leveling them up to 90 to nurturing their talents, upgrading their weapons, and grinding for their artifacts, takes a LOT of time, effort, and resins. For example, you need at least five million mora to fully upgrade a character, as well as hundreds of experience books and their talent materials - grinding these is limited by the number of resins you have.

Other ways to obtain wishes

Genshin Impact shop

If primogems are wickedly expensive and elusive, wishes are more so. Fortunately, you can earn them in other ways apart aside from spending primos. You can do so by upgrading the Statues of the Seven by collecting each region’s respective oculi, raising your adventurer level, and by fulfilling exploration objectives, like increasing the levels of Sacred Sakura Tree in Inazuma and Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine.

Moreover, you can also obtain wishes in the in-game shop by exchanging Stardust and Starglitter. Once a month, you can exchange five acquaint fates and five intertwined fates for 75 Stardust. Starglitter is unlimited, but it’s best to spend them on character cards and weapons, particularly the crit dmg ones, available in the shop.

Daily commissions, world quests, events, and giveaways

Lantern Rite

The tedious yet safest way to earn primogems in Genshin Impact is to simply grind and perform daily commissions. Sure, you can only earn a max of 60 per day, but it adds up and, at the same time, gives you much-needed adventurer XP. In addition, some world and story quests will give yield primogems, while increasing the trust ranking of your Serenitea Pot will do the same.

It would also be a fantastic idea to participate in events that occur in every update. These events range from the mundane, like planting flowers and cooking, to more exciting events like combat arenas and prop hunts (hello Windtrace!). You can earn event-specific currency when you participate and these can be used to redeem items, primogems included.

Finally, one of the surefire ways to earn primogems is to check out developer live streams and wait for redeem codes. They usually hold these whenever a new update is coming, and they give three codes, each with 100 primogems each.

Overall, it’s tough having to deal with Genshin Impact’s unforgivingly low gacha rates, but thankfully, players have a lot of ways to earn primogems. There’s not much you can do except spend wisely and only pull for the characters you need (and sorely want).
