With 2021 nearly coming to a close, it’s time to look forward to what gaming has in store in 2022. And yes, next year is loaded with highly anticipated titles that will indeed dominate the gaming headlines. WWGDB - 8 of the Most Anticipated Games in 2022

We’ve seen a lot of underrated games in 2021, which ended up becoming critically-acclaimed titles. Great examples include It Takes Two, which ended up winning Game of the Year in The The Game Awards, and Deathloop, a unique time-travel shooter. We can safely say that these names are, without a doubt, didn’t make a significant presence on the airwaves before.

The opposite will happen in 2022 since it will be dominated by big-name franchises and innovative-looking titles everybody is looking forward to playing. With that said, let’s take a good look at some of the most notable names that will head to our consoles and PCs next year:

Forspoken

Forspoken is basically a video game version of an “isekai” anime. It follows the tale of Frey, an African-American New Yorker transported into the beautiful yet unforgiving magical world of Athia. The game features a vast, easily traversable open-world and a magic-oriented combat system where you can use a large selection of spells to fight against massive creatures. As an outsider, you’ll also have to deal with Athia’s inhabitants that desperate to contain a calamity wreaking havoc across the land.

If you’ve seen any of the demos and trailers beforehand, you already know the massive hype surrounding it. After all, the game lets you traverse via magical parkour, ride ice hoverboards, and unleash devastating magic spells while exploring a fantasy-medieval world. Forspoken will be available on both Steam and PlayStation 5 (console exclusive) on May 22nd, 2021.

God of War: Ragnarok

Kratos’ Norse Saga is finally coming to a close with God of War: Ragnarok. Its prequel won countless game of the year awards in 2018, and expectations for this sequel will undoubtedly be high.

God of War: Ragnarok starts where it left off. After the death of Baldur and Kratos unknowingly setting the stage for Ragnarok occur, this puts our protagonist and his son, Atreus, in conflict with the rest of the Norse Pantheon and the Valkyries. Freya is understandably furious and is seeking revenge, and Thor, the God of Thunder himself, is on the same boat. And yes, we’ll once again see father-and-son shenanigans.

Horizon: Forbidden West

Aloy’s next journey is taking her to the ruins of San Francisco, whose skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge are recognizable from a distance. Forbidden West not only features an all-new location, but also a plethora of new monster/robot designs. There are now underwater robots, along with massive snakes and even gigantic snapping turtles. Moreover, combat has been expanded, and Aloy will have access to new skills and abilities that will make traversing this post-apocalyptic world a lot easier.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

Breath of the Wild 2 has no official title yet, but we can safely assume, that like the game, it’ll come this year. It picks up where it left off; after defeating Calamity Ganon, Zelda and Link will once again explore Hyrule. Though it looks like the world was reused, there will be new additions, including new floating islands and expanded Sheikah Slate abilities.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is made by FromSoftware, the creators of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. With this in mind, you probably already know that it will be an incredibly difficult game. Unlike the Souls franchise, Elden Ring features a vast world with sprawling dungeons with a variety of enemies that can, of course, kill you in a single blow. Moreover, the story is also incredibly intriguing, which is no surprise, considering George RR Martin, the creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire, had a hand with it.

Special mentions

Triangle Strategy

Apart from the above-mentioned games, there are also others that warrant a mention. These are:

-Starfield - an RPG by Bethesda set in the vast cosmos of outer space.

-Hogwarts Legacy - an RPG set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, it is set before the events of the book series and we won’t likely see many of the mainstay characters.

-Triangle Strategy - this is the spiritual successor to the Final Fantasy series and will feature turn-based tactical battles and a story that will be decided by your actions.

So, in your case, which of these games are you looking forward to most? Regardless, we’ll all have an amazing time in 2022 and it will surely be remembered as a golden year for gaming.
